Websites as Graphs

I came across this very cool, and very interesting site the other day as I was surfing. It’s a little Java applet that scans the site that you specify by url, and outputs an on-the-fly graph of the site using a system of colored dots. At face value, it is a really neat way to visually see what is going on behind the scenes of your site and could almost pass as art. I know it’s not just cool to web geeks like me, cause I showed it to my wife and she liked it as well. The picture shown here is a graph of my site. After familiarizing myself with what the colors mean, it was interesting from an seo perspective to look at my graph, cause I got to visually see how a bot would crawl my site and access the different parts. If nothing else, it’s at least a fun way to kill some time! -kenny

Not So Mighty Mouse

Of all the people I know personally, I am the biggest advocate / lover of Apple products. Anyone that knows me would tell you that I am a mac fanatic. I have 2 mac pro’s, a macbook pro, and a powerbook, one display of each size (20″,23″,30″), and a plethora of peripherals. Heck, I’m even signed up as an Apple developer and get the developer new’s letters. BUT, every now and then, I do come across something about Apple that I think could be improved and even sometimes, something I don’t like. Most recently, I am left with a dissatisfied taste in my mouth because of my broken wireless mighty mouse. Now, on top of being an Apple fanatic, I am also VERY cautious and take great care of everything that I own. Sometimes I even bother my wife with how fanatic I am about being careful with the things that we own. I am by no means hard on things. That is why I was so surprised when my mighty mouse broke, the first time it was ever dropped. I understand that the beautiful mouse was not intended to be dropped. But then again, neither are cell phones, which I would consider a much more fragile piece of technology than a simple wireless mouse. And I have never broken a cell phone in the past 5 years that I’ve had one, and carried it with me everyday. And even though I would consider myself one that is good about not breaking things, I have dropped a cell phone a fare share of times.. So naturally, I would expect that my mighty mouse should be able to with stand an occasional drop or two. But noooooooo, it breaks on me, beyond use, the first time it ever met the floor. My guess is that the added weight of the batteries inside caused it to hit with more force than it could handle. But one might think that Apple would test such a drop, as might be common for a wireless mouse. It makes sense to me that a wireless mouse would see much more travel time than a corded mouse. In fact, that is the only reason I had this mouse.. To use with my laptop when I was traveling, because I HATE using the laptop touch-pad mouse. And if you were to test wear and tear on a wireless mouse, why wouldn’t you test it with the batteries in?

Maybe I just had a freak occurrence, and my “Mighty” mouse hit in just the right spot, at just the right velocity, in just the right weather conditions to make it fall apart as you can see in the pictures. But I’m guessing, this is not the case, and the Mighty Mouse is in fact, not so mighty. -kenny

10 Reasons Adobe Space Monkey Will Replace CS3

So, like all of you geeks out there, I too have been drooling over the recent product unveiling of Adobe’s new CS3 line of software. I am excited and waiting until it ships. But, despite all the cool new things you will be able to do with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Soundbooth, and all the others… What about Adobe Space Monkey? Am I the only one that has experienced the power of Space Monkey? Don’t get me wrong, I love the standard line of what Adobe has to offer. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Acrobat religiously. But I would like to see the not-so-popular Space Monkey get some hype!

Pay Per Action - PPA, A New Google Service

It was pointed out to me today that Google has a new pay per action service available. The idea behind this, is that you don’t simply pay for clicks or impressions to your site, but you pay when a defined action takes place. (ex. a purchase is made) We’ll all be watching I’m sure, to see how this all pans out. My initial question is, what about sites that have a primary purpose of generating leads via a phone call? Does google zoom their imaging satellites down on your location when you click through to see if you pick up the phone? Maybe! -kenny
